Tees Valley City Region Development Programme
The Tees Valley City Region Development Programme (CRDP), published in May 2005 was prepared in response to the Northern Way Growth Strategy, launched in 2004 with the aim of reducing the £29 billion output gap between the North and the rest of the UK. The strategy sets out the need to accelerate economic growth across the North through working together on 10 investment priorities, and includes the Tees Valley as one of eight City Regions intended to drive the increased rate of economic growth.

The CRDP sets out the proposals designed to transform the economic performance of the Tees Valley and identifies a number of barriers to growth that need to be addressed. One of these barriers is connectivity, and three specific barriers are set out within the CRDP:
The need to improve internal connectivity by public transport;
The need to improve external connectivity to the City Region;
A concern of the Highways Agency about the ability of the A19(T) and A66(T) to cope with future development.

The transport solutions under development to tackle these barriers include:

Tees Valley Bus Network Improvements
Tees Valley Heavy Rail Improvements (Including Tees Valley Metro)
A19(T)/A66(T)/A174(T) Development Study Solution

A full summary of transport’s role in the economic growth of the sub-region is included within the City Region Transport Strategy a download of this is coming Soon.
