It has been recognised that providing transport improvements alone is not enough to change people’s perceptions of alternatives to the use of private cars to meet their transport needs. Lack of good quality, clear information has been identified as a significant barrier to the use of public transport, walking and cycling. Often people choose to use the private car because they do not have information on the alternatives or they have a misconception of other modes, such as bus and rail.
A Tees Valley Travel Awareness Group was set up to allow the five local authorities to work together on the promotion, implementation and continued development of various travel awareness initiatives, campaigns and schemes adopted across the sub-region. Such schemes include:
