Air Surface Access Strategy
The Air Surface Access Strategy (ASAS), which was adopted by the ATF, was submitted by Durham Tees Valley Airport as part of the current planning application for the expansion and redevelopment of the Airport Terminal facilities. Since the ASAS was adopted it has been recognised that the planning application, and any subsequent approval/rejection will impact upon it. As well as future work, the Airport has recently been subject to a program of Terminal improvements and infrastructure work that will mean the monitoring of any short-term actions of the Strategy will be compromised. The Airport aims to have 5% of passengers and 7% of employees using alternatives to the private car by mid 2007 with those figures rising to 10% and 12% by 2015 respectively. The Airport also aims to encourage and strengthen car-sharing schemes for employers.
Sky Express www.skyexpress.co.uk
The introduction of Sky Express Bus Service in May 2005 was seen as a key aspect of the ASAS. The service provides public transport access between Darlington Rail Station, Darlington Town Centre and Durham Tees Valley Airport. The bus service is designed to improve accessibility to the Airport and, by providing a link to the East Coast Mainline, entice more passengers to fly from the Airport. The service operates hourly/half hourly from 07:00 – 22:35, Monday to Saturday with only a small number of services being removed on a Sunday. The service is free to passengers travelling with a valid air ticket (arriving / departing within 24 hours) and there is a small fee for non-airline passengers.
Last Call! www.lastcall.org.uk/
“Last Call!” offers an opportunity to Durham Tees Valley Airport passengers to invest in the local environment before or after they take their holiday, by helping to plant trees in the nearby Tees Community Forest. The scheme has been set up to help offset the negative impact of air travel on the environment by planting trees to promote carbon sequestration.
